The Investigations Division includes the following specialty assignments: Criminal Investigation Division (CID), Special Victims Unit (SVU), Utah County Major Crimes Task Force (UCMC), School Resource Officers (SRO), and Evidence Technicians. The Investigations Division is made up of dedicated police officers who have specialized training in many different types of criminal investigations. These officers work hard to make the City of Orem continue to be a safe place to live, work, and play.

EVIDENCE

Evidence and Property is a section of the Investigations Division. Forensic Evidence Technicians receive specialized training and certification in crime scene management, forensics, fingerprints, photography, and many other disciplines of Forensic Science. The Evidence Technicians respond to all major crime scenes including homicides, attempted homicides, suicides, burglaries, and other critical incidents. The Evidence Technicians are also members of the Utah County Officer Involved Critical Incident Team (OICI), as well as the Orem Arson Investigation Team.

CID

Our Criminal Investigations Division is composed of two sergeants and six detectives. One Detective is centrally focused on domestic violence related cases. CID Detectives have specialized training in crime scene investigations, including homicide investigations, investigations of other types of violent felonies, property crime investigations, and interview and interrogation.

SVU

Our Special Victims Unit (SVU) is composed of a Sergeant, and four Detectives. SVU Detectives have specialized training in interviewing children and victims of sexual abuse. They also have extensive training in computer forensics and deaths involving children.

SVU Detectives investigate sex-related crimes, child abuse, elderly abuse child deaths, child pornography, prostitution and any other crimes which are sensitve in nature. Our SVU Detectives are also part of the Utah County Special Victims Unit Task Force and Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC).

SRO

The Orem Police Department School Resource Officer (SRO) Unit is composed of a Sergeant and multiple Detectives assigned to K-12 schools each day. Orem Police Department personnel are dedicated to the mission of keeping these places of learning safe. Having SRO’s inside primary and secondary schools each day is vital to successful school based policing. SRO’s also provide a police presence at many school sponsored activities such as sporting events and dances. The Orem Police Department has a strong working relationship with the schools and districts we work with to maintain collaborative efforts to improve school safety which are based on nationally recognized best practices. SRO’s provide many services to the school community including helping to educate students by teaching a Law Enforcement class at each of the high schools in Orem. Our SRO’s work diligently to build connections with students, staff, parents and the community, to improve the excellent learning environment in Orem City.
