About The drill

Emergency Operations Center in City Hall.

How it works

The primary goal of the drill is to accurately account for all Orem City residents and their current situation as quickly as possible.

Initiation

An Everbridge message will be sent out, to those who have signed up for alerts, at 6pm, by the City of Orem Emergency Manager to signal the start of the drill.

Block Activation

Block Captains alert their respective blocks that the “disaster” has begun.

Resident Check-in

Orem residents check in with their Block Captains as quickly as possible.

Information Relay

The Block Captains report their block’s status to their Neighborhood Specialists. This information is then passed up a chain of command: from Neighborhood Specialists to Area Specialists, and finally to the City of Orem Emergency Operations Center (EOC).

Emergency Response

The EOC uses the gathered information to disseminate any urgent details to emergency personnel.

Is My Neighborhood Participating?

FAQS

What Can I Do if My Neighborhood is Not Participating, but I Want to Participate with My Family?

There will be a check-in for any citizen or group of citizens that does not have the communication chain through their blocks, neighborhood, or area. The check-in will be at the Orem City Center Emergency Operations Center (EOC), located at 56 North State Street, beginning at 6:15 pm. Anyone who would like to check-in can go there, where they will meet with volunteers who will account for them as part of the drill. Or residents can call in to the EOC at 801-724-3870 or 801-724-3871. These phone lines are only active when the City of Orem EOC is activated during a drill, disaster, or emergency situation.
Please pass this information on to your lists of people if possible.

Individual and family preparedness is vitally important during a disaster. The following four activities will help you and your family get prepared for a disaster:

  • Learn about the hazards that we face in Orem.
  • Make a plan for reunification after a disaster.
  • Prepare an emergency supply kit.
  • Get involved in your community by volunteering for your favorite disaster response organization, taking a CERT class or helping your neighborhood by volunteering to be a Block Captain.
