One of Orem’s many programs is specifically designed for youth to participate in their local government.
About Orem Youth Council
Orem Youth Council (OYC) offers high school students (10th – 12th grade) who live in Orem the opportunity to gain an appreciation for their community through learning about our City government, serving and interacting in the community, building leadership skills, and developing lasting friendships. It is led by Orem City employees and two members of the City Council.
Activities include tours and experiences with various City departments, mock City Council meetings, service projects, social activities, and more (final activities will be selected by Youth Council members in coordination with advisors each year).
There is no cost to join Orem Youth Council.
Members are expected to maintain 80% attendance at Youth Council activities throughout the year.

- Wednesday, January 20, 2027 (6:30 AM – 2:00 PM, Local
Officials Day Field Trip at the Utah State Capitol & Salt
Palace) - May 2027 (Date TBD): Report to City Council

Applications close Sunday, August 23, 2026 at midnight and virtual interviews will be held the week of August 24. Applicants will be notified if they have been chosen for OYC by September 1 and will complete registration after that point.
