1600 N Major Street Project

1600 North Improvement Project Update

The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) is finalizing plans for the 1600 North Improvement Project, to improve safety, efficiency, and accessibility along the vital east-west connection between Orem, Lindon, and I-15. The project is in the final design and quality assurance stages, with construction expected to begin later this year.

Property Acquisitions and Demolitions
Property acquisitions and temporary easements are ongoing. Demolition of homes is taking place along the corridor, with the following measures in place:
● Utility Disconnections: All utilities are safely disconnected before demolition.
● Training Opportunities: Local agencies, including Fire, EMS, and S.W.A.T., may use acquired structures for training exercises before demolition.
● Demolition Process: Minimal disruptions are expected, though temporary lane closures or traffic shifts may occur near demolition sites.
● Salvage Restrictions: For safety and logistical reasons, salvaging materials from demolition sites is not allowed.

About the 1600 North Improvement Project
When completed, the 1600 North corridor will feature:
● Five lanes to improve traffic flow
● Upgraded intersections at 1200 West, 800 West, and State Street
● The addition of multi-use paths for pedestrians and cyclists, including bike lanes, sidewalks, and curb & gutters to enhance safety and accessibility.

Key Highlights
● Funding: Accelerated by the Utah Transportation Commission in 2023, expediting design and property acquisitions.
● Schedule: Design activities will continue through early spring 2025, with construction anticipated to begin later this year.
● New Configuration: The widened roadway and added features will support higher traffic volumes while improving safety for drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians.

This project will enhance quality of life by providing a safer, more accessible transportation system for the community.
