Hilary called the meeting the order.

  1. WM Tour Update: Bradley explained that the tour is scheduled for October 1st
    at 5:00 PM. with a 30-minute duration. The Commission will travel via city
    vehicle departing at 4:00 PM. The Mayor will be invited to attend.
  2. Library Events Updates & Planning
    a. Kaitlin shared that the Leaf Event is scheduled for October 12th at 6:00
    PM at the library greenhouse. Confirmed activities include Mod Podge
    leaf jars, leaf printing, and leaf art. There will not be a cyanotype activity
    at this event. Sarah suggested that commission members could bring
    jars to the event if they have extras.
    b. Seed swap event scheduled for February 23rd at the library. Utah Native
    Plant Society will provide native seeds for the event. Commission
    members will brainstorm booth ideas in a later meeting.
    c. NRAC Awards night scheduled for March, featuring presentations on
    water-wise landscaping. The previous winners have confirmed.
  3. Winter Events Planning
    a. Hilary suggested that the “Walk and Talk” event around Utah Lake be
    postponed to focus on more current events going on. The commission agreed. Hilary suggested an alternative wrapping paper activity in
  4. November. Sarah suggested a winter market booth as a space for the
  5. wrapping paper activity.
  6. b. Sarah proposed a “homemade gift series” on social media featuring
  7. upcycled items like soda can earrings.Rooted In Orem Update
    a. There will be a tree planting event at Lakeside Park scheduled for
    September 10th at 9:00 AM.
    b. The Tree Sales Pilot program for residents sold 30 trees within 2 days.
    The commission was encouraged to share it with their communities.
    Kaitlin shared the statistics from social media posts surrounding the
    tree sales program.
    c. The commission discussed vendor selection criteria in response to
    community feedback regarding using local Orem businesses.
  8. Ideas From Commission Members
    a. Hilary led a discussion with commission members regarding topics that
    have been on their mind. Paul discussed a potential partnership with
    Cornell University researchers regarding urban tree mapping for cooling
    effects.
    b. Sarah shared about the LDSES Treenote Speaker coming to UVU on
    October 24th.
    c. Hilary proposed analyzing municipal water usage data post-October to
    assess conservation impacts.
  9. Approval of meeting minutes (08/06/2026)
    a. Motion given by Paul Dunn to approve minutes
    b. Motion seconded by Sarah Bateman
    c. Voting Members: Hilary Hungerford, Sarah Bateman, Paul Dunn all voted
    yes; none opposed
    d. Motion to approve NRAC meeting minutes from the 8/6/2026 meeting
    passes
