Insurance

The steps to resolve your insurance violation depend on the start date of your insurance coverage. Please click on the line that applies most to your situation for more information.

If you can provide proof that your insurance was in effect on the date and time of the citation, you may be eligible for a dismissal of the charge.

Proof needs to be submitted in the form of a letter and requires the following:

  • The letter must be on insurance agency letterhead and have the date of the letter.
  • List name of insured. If the name is different than the person who received the citation, the letter must include an explanation indicating that the driver had the permission of the owner and is covered under that policy.
  • Vehicle description which must match the vehicle on the citation.
  • Indication that the coverage was in effect on the date and time the citation was issued or a statement that there was no lapse of coverage during the policy period.
  • Must be signed by agent.
  • Should include citation or case number.

Once this letter is obtained use the tab “Where do I submit proof of insurance?” below to submit your proof to the court.

If you got insurance after the citation was issued, you are not eligible for a dismissal of the charge, but you may qualify for a $300 credit towards your fine. To receive this credit you need to complete 3 steps:

1 – Submit proof of current insurance to jcorem@utcourts.gov

2 – Fill out a Notice of Enhancement Form.

      English Version

      Spanish Version

3 – Pay the remaining balance of the fine (after the court has applied the credit you will be notified that you can pay online at orem.gov/payments)

Please be advised if you have more than one no insurance charge on your record, you will not be eligible for a credit. Instead your case will be set for a hearing before the judge.
