The Metro SWAT Team concept was started after Utah received the 2002 Winter Olympic bid. The SWAT team is comprised of the Provo, Orem, BYU, and UVU police departments. This partnership allows each agency to combine resources and manpower in order to provide the best tactical emergency services to the contributing jurisdictions. The primary responsibility of the SWAT team is to handle criminal situations which may involve hostage rescue, barricaded subjects, and high-risk search warrants. The overall mission of the Metro SWAT team is to save lives and resolve each situation with the minimal amount of force needed.
